10 Brite Ideas to Grow your Twitter
Twitter is a great tool for building communities and for directly speaking to your audience. Unlike other social media platforms, Twitter is a fast-moving marketing tool and your tweets can quickly be pushed down pages being replaced by newer Tweets.
Building followers and your Twitter presence will take time. In the meantime, there are strategies and techniques you can use to increase your engagement, which in turn can lead to increased brand awareness, more clicks and more followers.
Here are some simple tips and tricks to get you started.
1. Talk to Your Audience
Don’t be shy. Reach out to people with common interests and engage with them by retweeting their posts and adding a comment. I found a new author’s book in a small bookshop in Boston and took a photograph. I then sent it to the author, who was so pleased and in turn posted it on her Twitter feed which had thousands of followers.
2. Have a Twitter Chat
A Twitter Chat is a public Twitter conversation around one unique hashtag. They are usually recurring and can be a great way to start a conversation with like-minded people. As they are public, anyone can join. Bloggers connect using the #Blogchat hashtag.
3. Use Hashtags
Search for trending or industry-focused hashtags, and follow influencers that actively use those tags. If you follow people in your industry, then search for their posts and see what they add. Or do a simple search for a simple topic. If you are writing about Emily Bronte then search #emilybronte. Using hashtags improves the discoverability of your profile.
4. Be Trendy
What is trending? What are the latest hot stories or news in your niche? If any popular topics have their own hashtag, then use that hashtag when tweeting your content so it is easily found by your audience. Using trending hashtags will increase your exposure and reach. If not, then create one!
5. Generate Reviews
If you want to generate reviews or comments for your book, service or product, simply DM (Direct Message) people in your tribe and ask them for an honest opinion. You can offer advance copies or freebies as an incentive, and even create a post advertising your offer. Remember to remain authentic in your message.
6. Create a Teaser Campaign
Software services like Canva allow you to easily create Twitter posts using their templates. You can then create a series of images of your book or product with something like 10 Days To Launch, 8 Days to Launch, etc. showing your product, or hide two-thirds of the product, then a third, then the whole product on launch day.
7. Tweak Your Tweets
Twitter recently changed their T&Cs where you can no longer retweet the same tweet. This mainly affected people using posting software such as Buffer or Hootsuite. To maximize your Tweets, you need to change the content in some way, even slightly before you post.
8. Do More of What Works
Unlike other social platforms, you can see your analytics on any Twitter account by going to Settings and then Analytics. This will show you what has been your most popular Tweets with the most traction and reach. Do more of what your followers like – easy!
9. Post Your Twitter On Your Other Social Media Platforms
Use your social media channels to boost your Twitter reach. By showcasing your Twitter handle on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other platforms, it will increase your reach. Also, post your Twitter handle on your website or blog.
10. Sign up to a Social Media Posting Service
If you sign up to a Social Media Posting Service such as Buffer or Hootsuite, you can schedule posts to go out at timed intervals on all your social media platforms. This is a great way to keep your accounts active, save time logging into each social media account separately and manage responses. You can sign up for Free and then pay a small monthly subscription.
